Why does the Callan Method work?
The Callan method is a fast and effective way to learn a language. The lessons are very different from other language lessons. You don’t sit in silence, perfecting your reading comprehension or doing grammar exercises from a book. There is no ‘casual conversation’ where you only use the words and structures you have known for a long time. The Callan Method gives you much more.
During a Callan Method lesson, you engage in activities that you cannot do outside the classroom. You listen all the time. You talk a lot,
and all your mistakes are corrected. You progress quickly because you are constantly surrounded by the language you are learning. There is no silence and no time for boredom or lack of concentration.
Repeat, repeat, repeat!
When learning a foreign language, you need to hear and see the words and grammatical structures and use them many times before you really get to know them well. This is the only way to make your language confident and natural.
The Callan method is based on a carefully constructed repetition system. Once you have been introduced to new words and grammar, you immediately start using them. You practise the new material by listening to questions, giving answers and receiving immediate correction of mistakes.
New vocabulary and grammar rules reappear in different contexts as you progress through the course. Because you repeat the material many times, you don’t have to understand everything the first time. With each repetition you understand more, it becomes easier and easier for you.
Each lesson is rehearsed and repeated a minimum of 7 times.
Natural speed
Callan Method teachers speak fast. In this way, you practise listening to fast, natural speech so that you can understand it without first translating it into your own language.
The Callan Method eliminates bad habits such as translating from your mother tongue to a foreign language and vice versa. This principle helps you to start thinking in the language you are learning.
In addition, so that students do not get used to one accent, there is a constant rotation of lecturers.
Continuous correction
In the Callan Method, the teacher assists you as you speak and corrects all your mistakes on the fly. The teacher corrects you by ‘copying’ your mistake and then giving you the correct version of the spoken word or phrase. This type of correction helps you to hear the difference between the mistake and the correct form. You immediately repeat the word or whole phrase in the correct way and then continue speaking.

How do we teach?

Fixed focus

Every pupil always takes an active part in class. There is an extremely energetic atmosphere during classes, which translates into constant focus and interest from the students.

Not one minute of silence

There is not even a minute of silence during lessons and the only language during class is English.

Speaking correctly

Pupils learn about all aspects of the language, but first learn to speak correctly – exactly as when learning their mother tongue.

Constant correction from by the teacher.

Systematic repetition

Systematic repetition of material /each lesson a minimum of 7 times.

Rotation of lecturers

How do others teach?

Solving exercises in the book

You usually only speak up when you feel like it or dare to. You spend most of your time solving the exercises in the book and then reading out your answers.

Waste of time

There are long moments of silence in lessons which are a waste of time and Polish is often dominant.

Repeating mistakes

Your pronunciation is only corrected occasionally therefore you duplicate your own mistakes.

You don’t learn to speak and understand

You spend most of your time writing and reading, you don’t learn to speak and understand and think in a foreign language.

Sacrificing one’s own time

If you want to consolidate the material, you have to devote a lot of your own time at home.

One way of pronouncing

You are always taught by the same teacher, so you hear only one pronunciation, accent and speed of speech.
